I met Crystal and Carlos on a cloudy summer night at the Lincoln Park Zoo South Pond. The light was absolutely perfect, and although it wasn’t our standard August weather, it was a beautiful night. Carlos told me how Crystal always jokes that he is so predictable, so he definitely had to surprise her with the proposal. He took her on one of the Odyssey cruises, cleared the deck of any spectators, and popped the question with the Chicago skyline lights shining in the background.
Wanting to document this exciting time in their lives, Crystal took her photographer search to Pinterest and Instagram and came across my photos. From there, it was the perfect match and we had the best time shooting in Lincoln Park and finishing up the session on the Kinzie Street Bridge. Crystal + Carlos, I hope you had a great weekend searching for wedding venues!
I rarely shoot family photos anymore as I’ve been lucky enough to focus on Weddings and Engagements, but when a little lady his cute turns one and just happens to also be my niece, how could I not snap a few pics? I won’t say much because her little face says it all – but I mean, how precious is she? Love this little girl so much, but don’t worry Carson and Chase – you’ll always be my favorite boys in the fam 🙂 To my brother and sister-in-law, you guys don’t look so bad yourselves! Love you all!
Once in a while, I step away from the wedding world and step into photographing events. When I was first starting out with photography, I shot a few events for Hendrick’s Gin. Since then, I’ve shot numerous food and alcohol events, spectacular weddings, and many more fabulous things – yet the parties thrown by Momentum Worldwide for Hendrick’s Gin still remain a favorite of mine. There is never a detail overlooked, or a cocktail that doesn’t taste just right – and my friends over at Momentum and Hendrick’s just know how to get it done.
This event at Gallera Marchetti was every bit as peculiar in the best way possible as the Hendrick’s events have been in the past, and it was refreshing and nostalgic to shoot with them again. Here’s a peek at the fun details and moments I captured at the Hendrick’s Airship Viewing Garden Party a few weeks ago…
Jess + Tom met at a bus stop when they were studying abroad in Florence, Italy. They had had mutual friends for a few months, but it wasn’t until this very night that they started talking and really hit it off. Their personalities just clicked and were inseparable from that moment on. Fast forward to August of last year, and Jess + Tom found themselves back in Florence where it all started. Tom knew this is where he wanted to pop the question, but Jess unknowingly kept messing up his plans. It wasn’t until their last night there, that he found the perfect opportunity to propose on their balcony. The rest of the night was full of delicious wine, food, and funny stories of how the proposal almost happened until it finally did.
Jess and I worked together on her Chicago fashion blog, Ticket & Tag, and I’ve always loved her style – so you can imagine my excitement for her wedding day (you can see one of my favorite looks from our fashion shoots here). Most of the wedding day details were DIY done by Jess, her bridesmaids, their family/friends, and a ton of work put in by the amazing Kelly Cavanaugh of Clementine Custom Events. And let me tell you, every single one was perfect. Since Jess and I had shot together before, the wedding day was like second nature, like working with an old friend. Tom and I, on the other hand, had never worked together – but you would never be able to tell. Tom was a natural in front of the camera, and he is one of the nicest, most sincere people I have ever met. He was perfectly kind to everyone he spoke to that day, but the level of love and sincerity between Jess and him was on a completely different level. Jess, you deserve nothing less than Tom – he is wonderful. And Tom, you deserve every bit of Jess’ loving heart and free spirit. Together, you two make one of my favorite couples I’ve been blessed enough to work with, and I’m completely obsessed with your wedding day style. I wish you and your family all the best and hope we can work together again soon!

On August 1st, 2004, Ari + Nicky officially became an item. What started out as childhood crushes and pre-teen make-outs turned into a relationship that would last a lifetime. Eleven years later, they tied the knot and became Mr. And Mrs. Fiore in front of all their family and friends. Ari + Nicky are truly best friends – and it was so much fun to watch them laugh, tease, and love each other the entire day. They’re completely themselves with each other and the bond they’ve formed over the past 11 years will surely grow over the rest of their lives together. Ari + Nicky, thank you for choosing me to take part in your special day. Everything was perfect and I’m so excited to help you relive your favorite moments, and cherish this day for the rest of your lives.

Unlike most Chicagoans the night before NYE, Ashley + Connor decided it was a good idea to go out and celebrate a day early. Good thing they did because it was that special night at Justin’s on Southport that brought them together and to their wedding day a few weeks ago.
Their wedding was a beautiful Chicago Day, set at the Adler Planetarium. The sky was a little dense and the air a bit humid – but that didn’t stop the smiles on Ashley + Connor’s faces as they said I do. Their love for each other was evident in the little subtleties they made towards each other. They were sweet, kind, respectful, and loving. All the makings of a happy and successful wedding day and life together!

I met Amy + Johnny on a perfect summer night in our hometown of Elmhurst. We had toyed with the idea of doing a city session a few weeks earlier, but the weather wouldn’t have nearly as nice and I think it was a little more meaningful to shoot in the town where their love first started 🙂 I recently photographed Johnny’s brother’s wedding at Amber Oaks Estate a few weeks prior, so it was nice to see Amy + Johnny now falling into the spotlight to celebrate their engagement.
Amy + Johnny, it was really great getting to know the both of you a little better. Engagement Sessions are always my favorite because I get to spend time with the bride and groom behind and in front of the camera before the big wedding day. It makes things so much easier come wedding day, and we definitely developed a comfort level about 10 minutes into the shoot that will easily carry over to the wedding. Congratulations on the Engagement – and I’ll see you very soon at the wedding!
